The Internet Campus is an online expression of McLean Bible Church and Frontline. Each Sunday, people log on to http://mcleanbible.org/internetcampus to experience live worship, the message, and online community. Regular attendees of the Internet Campus connect with others in a chat room called “The Lobby,” through online small groups, and other targeted outreach events uniquely designed to make an impact on secular Washington with the message of Jesus Christ. The Internet Campus will soon offer Christianity 101 classes for those wishing to dig deeper into their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Since the Internet Campus launched in October 2007, we have heard from countless individuals who have been blessed by this option for online worship. Shane Comeaux often travels overseas for work and has experienced the value of staying connected to his church community… online.
“When I left Virginia to head to Iraq in August, I thought it would be over a year before I would be able to participate in a live Frontline service again. However, not long after I arrived, the Internet Campus was
launched. It was great to be able to still feel a part of everything going on back home. The first night was especially neat when Todd verbally welcomed all the people joining the service online. When he said “Shane in Iraq” a bunch of friends let out a pretty loud cheer and it was very heartwarming despite being thousands of miles away from home.
“I signed up for the volunteer team of moderators after the first couple of weeks. Basically our role was to make sure everyone was welcomed as they logged into the chat room, answer any questions anyone had, and stimulate discussions related to the topic once the sermon started. It was yet another way to feel completely plugged in to my church community while I was away on business.
“During the weeks I was able to help out, people literally from all over the world logged on to the Internet Campus. Regulars showed up each week and our own little community away from home started forming. It also very quickly became a great resource for those who were either home sick, taking care of kids, away for the weekend, or former MBC/Frontline attendees who had since moved away.
“I’m continually amazed, even though I shouldn’t be, at how much McLean and Frontline continue to push the envelope to be as relevant as possible for our generation. The Internet Campus is just another example of what God can do when people step out in visionary faith and take risks for Christ”
